There are not many producers bottling Schiava Gentile by itself and so we don’t have much opportunity to understand its true potential. Instead we see the grape used as a blending component where it contributes light red fruit characteristics such as cherry, cranberry, strawberry and red currant. Grown predominantly Durante the Alpine foothills of northern Italy it’s of little surprise to note that acidity is high and floral perfumes are prominent.

Alois Lageder is a leading biodynamic producer Per Italy who has for many years experimented with viticulture in juxtaposition to climate change. Beginning with the 2018 vintage, the winery engaged Per longer skin contact during the vinification of this wine because it had proven to slightly lower the alcohol levels.

The wine has a pretty, rather light garnet color. The bouquet flashes strawberries, spices and violet notes. The palate offers juicy red fruit flavors, a tangy acidity and a small amount of ripe tannins.

The wine was bright and fresh, with the zinging acidity and balance of technicolor (red berry and black cherry) fruit and earthiness that really turn us on.
